It’s been two years since Amazon launched its smart speakers. The speakers are capable of interacting with the users with voice commands. They can do a variety of tasks like music playback, setting alarms, making to-do lists, playing audio books, streaming Podcasts, giving the weather report, traffic conditions and all these were synchronized with real time information.
Amazon Echo was one of a kind speaker when it entered the market. It was launched initially to Amazon Prime members but later was made available to everyone in the US by the mid of 2015 and other regions in the year 2016. So far Amazon Echo has enjoyed a single leader in the market, but now it seems things are going to change as more rivals are emerging in the market.
Microsoft made an announcement on the blog which signaled towards the competition it is going to pose towards Amazon Echo. Microsoft stated,
“We believe that everyone deserves a personal assistant. One to help you cope as you battle to stay on top of everything – from work to your home life. An assistant that is available everywhere you need it, working in concert with the experts you rely on to get things done. Today, we are inviting you to join us in this vision for Cortana with the announcement of the Cortana Skills Kit and Cortana Devices SDK. The Cortana Skills Kit is designed to help developers reach the growing audience of 145 million Cortana users, helping users get things done while driving discovery and engagement across platforms: Windows, Android, iOS, Xbox and new Cortana-powered devices,”
It is evident from this announcement that Microsoft wants to penetrate into most of the platforms using its voice assistant tool. Microsoft has added a short video with the above post which gave us some idea about the gadget’s look and functions. It is cylindrical in shape, and it will be powered with Cortana in 2017. The company has partnered with Harman Kardon which is the most reputed name in Audio Technology.
It is already in the news that Microsoft is planning to have its own mobile phone released by next year and it is evident that it will be equipped with Cortana. It’s going to pose an exciting competition to its rivals. Microsoft is seriously considering manufacturing the smartphone with the best of available technology as stated by its CEO Satya Nadella that Microsoft is working on an ultimate mobile device.
The year 2017 will see some of the finest technological achievements and exciting competition between the Giants. It is also the year when two of the most reputed mobile phone companies will roll out their ambitious flagship devices. Samsung will launch its Galaxy S8, and Apple will come out with iPhone 8. We can see competition and advancement everywhere, and this will be an exciting thing for both consumers and retailers
