Facebook and Instagram were off air to many users for some hours this Wednesday in what seemed to be a global connection issue.
The website Down Detector detailed users of the two platforms reported problems at about 4pm. The worst hit two regions were with Europe and North America, which could be the result of time zones and peak hours of usage. Somewhere around 6pm, the number of reported issues had come down to normal range.
A Facebook representative said: “Earlier today, a networking issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Facebook services. We quickly investigated and started restoring access within about an hour, and we have nearly fixed the issue for everyone. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.”
The problems were reported from both desktop and mobile phone versions. Some users could access their accounts, with others reporting only a small portion of the functionalities were operational.
A Facebook spokesperson detailed that the company “aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram”. The issue resulted in the hashtag #FacebookDown trending across the world on Twitter.
